THE WORLD'S GREATEST RACE
First run in 1923, the 24 Hours of Le Mans is the world's most famous motor sport event. Taking place each June in France this round the clock race attracts over 250,000 fans from all around the globe to celebrate a week long festival of sport.
I have had the pleasure of being involved in seven 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 2010 I was the press officer for the Beechdean Mansell Motorsport team where British racing legend Nigel Mansell was competing in his first Le Mans alongside his two sons Leo and Greg. Unfortunately the race ended after 17 minutes with Nigel crashing at Indianapolis.
In 2012 the 24 Hours of Le Mans became part of the FIA World Endurance Championship, where I am the FIA Media Delegate, and so I have been involved in the organisation of the event for the part six years. As well as being the FIA Media Delegate, the ACO invited me to act as the Photo Delegate for the event, briefing and overseeing the 600 international photographers and TV crews at the event.
The 24 Hours of Le Mans is a mythical event, it is far more than a race, it is a world class event and you need to experience Le Mans to understand it. 2018 will see the 86th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 16/17 and I am looking forward to another trip to La Sarthe in the summer.
